Double Degree – EM Strasbourg
The Chair of Corporate Management of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) offers the option to complete a dual master’s degree in cooperation with the EM Strasbourg Business School. The double degree consists of four semesters (two years), out of which two semesters are completed at the FAU and two at the EM Strasbourg.
FAU students that are enrolled in one of the following master programs are eligible for the double degree program:
- Master in International Business Studies,
- Master in Management,
- Master in Marketing.
The double degree program offers the opportunity to obtain a degree from both the FAU and the EM Strasbourg. After completing the program, students receive the degree “Master of Science” in International Business Studies / Management / Marketing from the FAU and the “Diplôme Grande Ecole in Management, grade Master” from the EM Strasbourg.
Apart from obtaining two degrees, a double degree offers various advantages: The program promotes essential competencies such as language skills, flexibility, and intercultural competencies. This combination opens up excellent perspectives in the increasingly global job market and supports personal development.
Structure of the program
The double degree consists of four semesters, out of which two semesters are completed at the FAU and two at the EM Strasbourg. The structure of the program differs depending on whether the home university is the FAU or the EM Strasbourg.

Grand Oral (2nd year: September): EM Strasbourg
At the end of the second year in September, the students have to complete a “Grand Oral,” a 30-minute oral examination on the master courses, and a case study done in Strasbourg. The “Grand Oral” does not account for any ECTS but is compulsory for the master’s degree.
Application
The application period for the double degree takes place during the first master semester and, therefore, students must have already started studying an eligible study program at the FAU before applying for the double degree. There is no possibility of applying for the study program and double degree at the same time. The application deadline for the double degree program is in December (of the first master’s semester).
The application process for FAU students is coordinated by the international office at the FAU. For more information, please contact the international office (Email: wiso-international@fau.de, room: LG 2.232).
Application documents:
The required application documents usually include, but are not limited to:
- Photo
- Letter of motivation
- CV
- Certificate of enrollment
- Transcript of records
- Language test certificates
- Internship certificates, extracurricular activities, etc.
Language requirements:
Students must have a B2 level in the language of their specialization in France. In other words, when a student chooses the major “International and European Business,” which is taught in English, the students must be able to provide a B2 English certificate at the time of application. Likewise, a French-taught major requires a B2 French level.
Furthermore, students should have a minimum French level of A2 / B1 at the beginning of the year in France. Therefore, students who have no French skills at the beginning of the first master’s semester can take French classes during the first year at the FAU and reach an A2 / B1 level by the beginning of the year in Strasbourg. Thus, when choosing an English major, it is not required to prove French skills at the time of the application.
For more information about French language classes at the FAU, please contact the FAU language center.
We strongly encourage all interested students to apply to the double degree program!
